Things are Looking Up in Singapore

Some will read this and say "So what?".  And others will go "Of course, I never thought of that."

Early in my career I was involved in a project that required satellite dishes being installed at a couple of thousand service stations for a POS (point of sale) network.  The installers would have to aim the dish at a satellite.  This satellite was in a geosynchronous orbit, approximately 23,000 miles above the earth--OVER THE EQUATOR!

Fast forward 25 years and I am living in Singapore.  Our condo looks over the Shangri La hotel.  On its roof are three large satellite dishes, and instead of looking to the south they are pointed straight up.  Why, because we are almost on the equator.

Looking somewhat like giant martini glasses, they serve as a reminder that where you look depends on where you stand.
